Introduced in 1956, the Milgauss was designed for engineers and technicians working in magnetic fields. Magnetism can interfere with the regular operation of a mechanical watch. Still, this watch is resistant to magnetic strengths of up to 1,000 gausses, allowing it to maintain the performance and accuracy of an officially certified timepiece and « mille » in French. For one thousand, the watch is also named after it.
From the outside, the dial is a highlight. The Oyster Perpetual Milgauss has a diameter of 40 mm, and the mirror is made of scratch-resistant green crystal. Looking through the green crystal mirror, you can see the charming Z blue surface with a Rolex at midnight.
The official name of the series to which green glass belongs is « Milgauss, » which, as the name suggests, focuses on excellent anti-magnetic properties. The history of this series can trace back to the 1950s. With the development of the times, people are more likely to come into contact with magnetic fields in daily life, so it has also spawned the demand for professional anti-magnetic watches. After half a century of development and evolution, the well-known modern magnetic « green glass » Ref.116400gv was unveiled at the Baselworld 2007. The biggest highlight of this watch is the use of a unique green mirror, which is not only the only one of many Rolex products but also unique when looking at the entire bezel, instantly making it fully recognizable.
All the metal scales of Rolex are all made of precious metal. Not only are the scales gold, but the hands are all gold. Blue dial with 18 ct white gold easy-to-read Chromalight luminous hour markers (lasting luminescence), 18 ct white gold Chromalight luminous hands, orange lightning-shaped seconds hand, and the overall tone is vibrant and dynamic with a large crown.
Water-resistant to 100 meters (330 feet), the Oyster case of the Milgauss watch is a model of robustness and reliability. The typical middle case is solid 904L steel with extreme corrosion resistance.
This watch is finely polished from every angle, and the metallic luster is translucent. The straight lugs naturally link to the bracelet, and the curves of its profile are impeccable. The triangular grooved case back is screwed by the Rolex watchmaker with a unique tool exclusive to the brand so that the patient is completely sealed. The winding crown adopts Rolex’s patented double-lock double waterproof system, which is firmly screwed to the case.
The Oyster Perpetual Milgauss is equipped with a comfortable and safe Oyster bracelet and a folding Oyster clasp designed by Rolex, which is still engraved with the Rolex logo. No matter the occasion, Rolex will complement your image.
The strap is also equipped with the ingeniously designed Rolex-patented easy-to-adjust link extension system, which allows the belt to easily extend by about 5 mm, making it comfortable to wear in all situations.
The Milgauss uses the 3131 self-winding mechanical movements entirely developed by Rolex. Like all Rolex Perpetual movements, Caliber 3131 has received the Swiss Official Accreditation Timepiece Certification, awarded to precision watches that have successfully passed the tests of the Swiss Precision Timepiece Testing Center (COSC). This watch also uses a Rolex patented component to ensure that the level of anti-magnetic resistance of the watch matches the name of the look.
